The Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) is about to expand from a three-team to a four-team tournament from the upcoming season, with the addition of Jamaica Empress. Empress will join Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), Barbados Royals (BR) and Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the competition. The fifth edition of the T20 franchise competition will run from September 5 to 17. All the games will be held in Barbados.
WCPL 2026 Format Explained
Each team will face the other three sides once during the round-robin stage. The team that finishes at the top of the points table after the end of the round-robin round will qualify directly for the finals. The winner of the playoff fixture between the team ranked second and third will become the second finalist.

The dominance of Barbados Royals
It would be extremely difficult for the other three sides to challenge the hegemony of Barbados Royals, who have won the previous three editions (2023, 2024 and 2025) of the tournament. Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2022.
"Looking ahead to 2027, the WCPL is preparing to take the next step in its evolution, with plans to welcome teams from outside the Caribbean and establish the tournament as a truly global competition," read a WCPL press release, suggesting the expansion of the tournament in the coming years.
