Josh Hazlewood proved his worth yet again as he played a pivotal role in guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 23 of the ongoing 19th edition of the IPL at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 15.
Hazlewood claimed the big wicket of Nicholas Pooran (1 off 7) with a short of a length delivery that pitched in line of the stumps and angled away from the West Indian. Pooran tried to connect a pull but only managed to bottom-edge it onto his stumps.

RCB's premier overseas quick proved hard to put away for the LSG batters as he conceded just 20 runs in his quota of four overs at a remarkable economy rate of 5.00. He was adjudged the Player of the Match (POTM) for his miserly spell of bowling as RCB restricted Lucknow to 146 and chased it down with ease by five wickets and 29 balls to spare.
Hazlewood's spell has helped the defending champions reclaim the top spot on the IPL 2026 points table. RCB now have eight points in five games with four wins and a loss to their name. Their net run rate (NRR) of 1.503 is the best in the tournament.
This is Hazlewood's fourth stint with RCB in the cash-rich league. The right-arm seamer was a vital cog in RCB's bowling wheel last season and played an instrumental role in propelling them to their maiden IPL title.
He claimed a total of 22 wickets in 12 games of the previous season at an average of 17.54 and an economy rate of 8.77, including a four-wicket haul. He has claimed three wickets in two games thus far at an average of 21.33 and an economy rate of 8.00.
