India and Afghanistan have played five ODIs in their cricketing history after the two teams first locked horns in 2014. While India hold the upper hand in the head-to-head records, Afghanistan have ran them close on a couple of occasions, as the two teams even played a tie in 2018.

Later, the Men in Blue registered a narrow 11-run victory over the Afghans during 2019 World Cup. In their limited encounters in 50-over cricket, a few Afghanistan batters have also troubled India. Here are top three knocks by Afghanistan batters against India in their ODI history:

3. Hashmatullah Shahidi, 80 (88), Delhi, 2023

The Afghanistan captain led his team from the front, playing a classy innings of 80 (88), studded with eight fours and a six to guide his team to a good score of 272/8 in 50 overs. He got involved in a massive 121-run stand off 128 balls with Azmatullah Omarzai for the fourth wicket. However, his efforts went in vain as India won the match by 8 wickets, chasing down the target in just 35 overs.


2. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, 102 (51), Dharamsala, 2026

The wicketkeeper batter slammed the fastest century for Afghanistan in ODIs, completing his landmark off just 48 balls and put his team in the driver’s seat. Afghanistan’s score was 135 when Gurbaz brought up his century as he whacked eight fours and as many sixes in his innings. His stunning effort helped his team post 194 in 24.5 overs (25-over fixture). However, it ended in a losing cause as India registered a seven-wicket victory in the fixture.


1. Mohammad Shahzad, 124 (116), Dubai, 2018

Another wicketkeeper batter tops the list as Mohammad Shahzad ripped apart the Indian bowling attack during the 2018 Asia Cup fixture between the two teams. Opening the innings for his team, Shahzad slammed an 88-ball century and finished his innings on 124 (116) with the help of 11 fours and seven sixes. He guided Afghanistan to a decent score of 252/8 in their 50 overs and was adjudged Player of the Match in the tied fixture.
