Babar Azam has emerged as Pakistan's most reliable batter in the modern-day era. He is also a bankable name, which is why the men's selection committee reappointed him as captain of the Test side to change the fortunes of the outfit in the ICC World Test Championship.

Babar is an elegant batter, and people spend their hard-earned money to watch him bat. However, he is also one of the most polarising figures among fans, and it is due to the unique trajectory of his international career. Babar was once touted to become the greatest ever of his time and was even compared to a senior pro like Virat Kohli. There was a point when Babar was scoring runs for fun and was not dependent on conditions to scale a milestone or contribute to the team's cause in wins.

However, his numbers, which were once soaring like the shares of a stock in hot demand, began to register a gradual decline across formats. While the crest of his wave was impressive, its trough was equally appalling and also led to his exclusion from the T20I and Test sides. Babar has endured one of the most forgettable phases as a batter and was unfortunate to witness a few records which are unenviable. Let's look at three such undesired records that Babar holds in international cricket:

#1 Longest century drought in international cricket for a specialist batter from Pakistan (83 innings)

Babar went 83 innings across formats (Tests+ODIs+T20Is) in international cricket without scoring a hundred. After scoring a 131-ball 151 against Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023 opener, it took him 807 days to rack up another hundred. The drought ended after he scored an unbeaten 102 against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match series in Rawalpindi on November 14, 2025.

#2 Joint-most T20I ducks for Pakistan

Babar has also registered the joint-most number of ducks for Pakistan in T20Is. Babar has 10 ducks in 145 T20Is. Saim Ayub and Umar Akmal share the unwanted record with him.

# 3 Lowest strike rate for any batter at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup (minimum of 500 runs)

Babar has the lowest strike rate (111.49) for any batter with a minimum of 500 runs at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The right-hander has aggregated 640 runs in 23 games at the marquee tournament with the help of five fifties.
