India's flamboyant opener Abhishek Sharma showcased yet again why he is rated so highly among the top batters in T20Is. The southpaw smacked a 34-ball 108 in the third T20I against Afghanistan on September 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. He shattered multiple records during his whirlwind knock, but the biggest of them all was the fastest ever T20I ton by a player from an ICC full-member nation.
The record previously belonged to Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza, who had scored a 33-ball century against Gambia in an ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group B fixture in Nairobi (Ruaraka) on October 23, 2024.
Abhishek took just 30 balls to reach the three-figure mark and eclipsed Rohit Sharma's fastest-ever T20I ton for India. Rohit had smashed a 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in Indore on December 22, 2017.
This is also the fastest hundred against a full-member team. Finn Allen's 33-ball ton against South Africa in the first semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup was the previous fastest against a full-member team.
