Star India cricketer Virat Kohli is touted as the greatest ODI batter in the world by many. Kohli has earned this reputation through his remarkable exploits in the format ever since his debut in 2008. He has already broken the world record for most centuries scored in the 50-over game, having surpassed legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 centuries.

He currently stands as the second-highest scorer of the format with 14,797 runs at an astonishing average of 58.71. Out of Virat Kohli’s 54 ODI centuries, many have come at a rapid pace as he has put his aggressive stroke play on display. Here’s a list of Kohli’s top three fastest ODI centuries:


3. 76 balls vs Sri Lanka in Hobart, 2012

India needed to chase the target of 321 runs under 40 overs to stay alive in the Commonwealth Bank tri-series. After a brisk start by the openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli arrived at the crease with India on 86/2. He stitched a crucial partnership with Gautam Gambhir and brought up his fifty off 44 balls.

He went on to notch up his hundred off just 76 deliveries, staying not out on 133* (86), smashing 16 fours and two sixes. Courtesy of his innings, India chased down the target in just 36.4 overs to win by seven wickets.


2. 61 balls vs Australia in Nagpur, 2013

Chasing 351, Kohli arrived at the crease on 178/1 after a good start from openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. He first brought up his fifty off just 31 balls and later completed his century off 61 deliveries. He remained unbeaten on 115* (66), smashing 18 fours and a six as he took India over the line in 49.3 overs.


1. 52 balls vs Australia in Jaipur, 2013

Kohli’s fastest-ever century came in another chase, just a few days before his Nagpur blitzkrieg. Asked to pull off India's highest chase ever, Kohli played a breathtaking innings of unbeaten 100* off just 52 balls, clobbering eight fours and seven sixes. As a result, the Men in Blue comfortably chased down 360 in 43.3 overs to level the series 1-1.
