The tenth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup has got underway in England and Wales, and fans are excited to see which team gets crowned as the champion at the end of the event. Women’s T20Is have come a long way ever since their inception in August 2004, when England took on New Zealand in the first-ever game.
In its over 21-year-long history, the format has seen several top leaders, who’ve been extremely successful with their teams, guiding them to multiple victories under their leadership. Here are the top three most successful captains in Women’s T20I history in terms of win percentage (minimum 40 matches):

3. Charlotte Edwards (73.11%)
The legendary England captain ranks on third spot in the list, having guided her team to 68 wins out of 93 matches. Under her leadership, England also won their only Women’s T20 World Cup title in 2009, beating New Zealand in the final at Lord’s. Edwards also had a prolific run with the bat as skipper, having scored 2529 runs from 91 innings at an average of 32.84 with 12 fifties to her name.
2. Heather Knight (73.95%)
The former England captain takes the second spot, having guided her team to 71 wins out of 96 matches. Heather Knight came close to leading England to their second T20 World Cup triumph, only to lose against Australia in the summit clash in 2018. She further led her team to two more semi-finals in 2020 and 2023, but the trophy continued to elude her. As a skipper, Knight scored 1902 runs from 87 innings at an average of 30.19 and with one hundred and seven fifties.
1. Meg Lanning (76%)
The legendary Australian captain deservedly takes the top spot, having guided her team to 76 victories out of 100 matches in her T20I career. Meg Lanning has an enviable record as T20I skipper, having led Australia to a record four T20 World Cup titles in 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023. Lanning also has the third-most runs by a captain in women’s T20I history with 2619 runs from 89 innings at an average of 42.24, with two hundreds and 12 fifties to her name.
