Team India are standing at the threshold of history and are just one win away from immortalizing their legacy in the upper echelons of T20 internationals. The defending champions are set to meet New Zealand in the final of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup on Sunday, March 8, and a victory will help them become arguably the finest T20I team in the world.

Should the co-hosts get the better of the Blackcaps in the final showdown, then that will make them the first team in almost two-decade-long history of the signature ICC event to win consecutive titles, the first to win the title on home turf and the only team with three title wins, as they are currently tied at two with West Indies (2012, 2016) and England (2010, 2022).

New Zealand have dropped two games in the tournament. They were totally outplayed by South Africa in a group-stage fixture by seven wickets and then suffered a narrow four-wicket defeat at the hands of Harry Brook's England in the Super Eights at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

This will be New Zealand's second fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Their loss to the Proteas had come at the same venue.

Meanwhile, the Narendra Modi Stadium has largely been a happy hunting ground for Team India, but the ghosts of their 2023 ODI World Cup final loss to Australia may come back to haunt them.

The wounds are still fresh, and many Indian fans are dreading a similar result on the day of the final against the Kiwis.
