Ever since the very first men’s T20I was played in February 2005 between New Zealand and Australia, the format has revolutionised international cricket like never before. The inception of T20 cricket has paved the way for large crowds at the stadium, with the fast-paced action of the game appealing to people.
One of the major reasons behind making T20 cricket entertaining is the ruthless stroke play of batters, who put bowlers to the sword without any mercy. In the brief 21-year history of T20Is, there have been a few batters who’ve stood above the rest with their stroke play, earning the reputation of being the most explosive players of the format.
3. Tim David
Tim David started his career playing 14 matches for his country of birth, Singapore. However, he switched bases to Australia in 2022 and has represented them at the international level, ever since. The right-handed batter has played 74 T20Is so far and scored 1679 runs at an average of 34.97 and a blistering strike rate of 168.40. He even whacked the fastest hundred for Australia in just 37 balls against West Indies in 2025, scoring 102* (37), which remains his highest score.
2. Finn Allen
The Kiwi opener is another ruthless hitter in the cricketing world, having played several belligerent innings for his country. Finn Allen has the joint-fastest hundred in T20Is among full-member nations, having completed the milestone in just 33 balls against South Africa during the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final.
He has also slammed an 18-ball half-century against Bangladesh in 2021. Allen has played 62 T20Is so far and scored 1663 runs at an average of 28.67 and a strike rate of 170.73 with three hundreds and seven fifties to his name.
1. Abhishek Sharma
The star India opener is touted as the most explosive batter in world cricket currently, being every bowler’s worst nightmare. Abhishek Sharma has the second-fastest century by an Indian to his name, having reached the landmark in just 37 balls against England in 2025. The southpaw has scored 1589 runs from 50 T20I matches so far, at an average of 33.80 and a strike rate of 192.83, the highest among batters with a minimum of 1000 runs in the format.
