Pakistan's overseas Test slide hits new nadir

Pakistan have hit a new nadir in their overseas red-ball record with a 90-run loss to West Indies in the first of the ongoing two-match Test series. This is Pakistan's eighth consecutive loss in Test matches away from home. Never before have Pakistan lost eight overseas red-ball games on the trot.
Pakistan have miserably failed at arresting the slide, which began with a staggering 360-run loss to Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth in December 2023. Seven of these eight defeats came under Shan Masood's leadership, who was sacked on the day the selectors announced their squad for the Windies and England series.

The reappointed captain Babar Azam also seems to be struggling, and his struggles were laid bare in the Test series opener at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
Pakistan's previous worst streak came between June 1, 2018 and August 5, 2020, when they lost seven Test matches on the trot, two each against England and Australia and three against South Africa.

The streak seems likely to continue as Pakistan have lost Masood's services with a fractured finger. He had registered a century in the first innings in Tarouba, and his untimely injury has compounded Pakistan's batting woes.
