Five records of Rohit Sharma that Virat Kohli can never break

Star India batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are set to return to action in the upcoming ODI series against West Indies beginning on September 27. Both stalwarts began their journeys almost two decades ago and have risen in stature in world cricket with one match-winning performance after the other.

As with most great players, the two have often been compared by their large fanbases. Both cricketers have their own different styles of play, as Rohit is often the aggressor in the powerplay while Kohli holds one end with others batting around him. Given their different roles, it’s unfair to compare the two on any metric. 

Despite that, some comparisons are unlikely to stop with the duo being at the forefront of Indian cricket. Here are the top five records that Rohit Sharma holds, which Virat Kohli may never surpass in his career:

1. Most sixes in men's international cricket

Rohit Sharma currently holds the record for most sixes in international cricket with 662 maximums from 547 innings. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is far behind, having only 325 from 629 innings, less than half of Rohit's tally. 

2. Highest individual score in men's ODI cricket 

Rohit also has the feat of the highest individual ODI score to his name, having scored 264 (173) against Sri Lanka on November 13, 2014. It will be extremely difficult for Kohli to surpass it as he doesn’t open the innings, and he has made 150+ in an ODI innings just five times in his career.

3. Most fours in an ODI innings

During his marathon innings of 264, Rohit also made a record for the most fours in a single ODI innings, sending the ball to the fence 33 times. It would be incredibly difficult for Kohli to break despite his four-hitting prowess, as he has only crossed even 20 fours in an ODI innings twice; the last instance was almost 8 years ago.

4. Most runs in boundaries in a men's ODI innings

Rohit Sharma made the record for most runs from fours and sixes during the course of his 264 as well, with 186 of those runs coming in boundaries. Kohli would find it tough to break this record since he has only scored 100 or more runs through boundaries in an ODI innings once, all the way back in 2023.

5. Most hundreds in T20Is

Rohit Sharma also jointly holds the record for most hundreds in T20Is along with Glenn Maxwell. The former India captain slammed five T20I hundreds during his illustrious career. However, Kohli couldn’t break the record during his T20I career, as he finished with one century in the format.
