The T20 World Cup 2026 has reached the business end with India and New Zealand gearing up to clash in the all-important final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.

New Zealand sailed through the semi-final smoothly, annihilating the South Africans with both bat and ball. Finn Allen went berserk during the 170-run chase, smashing 100* off just 33 balls which is now the fastest T20 World Cup ton and also the fastest for New Zealand in T20I cricket.

India, on the other hand, had a close finish against England who did not give up at any stage despite chasing a humongous 254 runs. Jacob Bethell led the charge with his maiden century in the format, but Jasprit Bumrah's economical 18th over (six runs) almost put the game in India's pocket. Eventually, India won by seven runs to set up another date with New Zealand in an ICC event final. Incidentally last year, the teams met each other in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 wherein India came out trumps by four wickets.

Both the teams have clashed with each other thrice in the history of T20 World Cups (2007, 2016, 2021). On all three occasions, the Kiwis defeated the Indians by fairly comfortable margins. In terms of ICC finals across formats, the BlackCaps lead the race as well with two wins (ICC Knockout Trophy 2000, WTC 2021 final) out of three matches.
