India star opener Sanju Samson has been the mainstay of the team's batting in the previous two matches of the T20 World Cup 2026. The right-hander smashed unbeaten 97 runs off 50 balls in the last Super Eights game against the West Indies, and followed it up with another match-winning innings of 89 runs off 42 balls in the semi-final against England.

Samson, whose batting style is easy on the eye and elegant, is also a power hitter who relies more on timing rather than brute force. As a result, the 31-year-old slams sixes at will when in full flow. In this edition, the batter leads the six-hitting charts for India with 16 so far. Overall, he is fourth on the list with Finn Allen leading the pack with 20.

Samson, with his tally of 16 sixes, has created a new record for hitting the most number of sixes by an Indian in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. The Kerala batter overtook Rohit Sharma who hammered 15 sixes in the 2024 edition. Interestingly, the next three names on this list represent players who are currently part of this edition and are very likely to lead the table with one match to go.

All credit goes to Jasprit Bumrah: Samson

Samson's innings and the cameos from most of the other batters allowed India to post an imposing 254-run target in the semi-final, but the way England were batting, led by Jacob Bethell, it was going to be a close affair as the margin of victory for India (seven runs) proves it. Therefore, Samson was all praise for the bowlers, especially Bumrah who just conceded six runs from the 18th over, playing a key role in India's entry into the final.

"All credit goes to Jasprit Bumrah. I think the world-class bowler, once-in-a-generation bowler... I think that's what he delivered today. This (POTM award) should go to him actually. So, if he didn't bowl that way in the death overs, I would not be standing here. So all credit goes to the bowlers, how they backed themselves in the tough conditions," Samson said.

India will now meet New Zealand for the all-important final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.
