Team India's Test record in Sri Lanka and Galle as Shubman Gill-led side pushes for WTC final berth

The first ball of the upcoming two-match Test series between India and hosts Sri Lanka is just one more sleep away as both teams prepare to outmanoeuvre each other. The first Test of the series gets underway at the Galle International Cricket Stadium (GICS) on Saturday (August 15).
Both teams have announced their squads with several key players missing out due to injuries. India are without the services of their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and No. 3 batter Sai Sudharsan. They are also missing batting allrounder Washington Sundar in their ranks.
Bumrah is out with a left knee injury, whereas Sudharsan is grappling with a right toe stress reaction. Sundar, meanwhile, continues to recover from a right hamstring injury which he sustained during the second ODI against England at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on July 16.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka have a fairly depleted batting order ahead of the first Test. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis have not been included in the team for the series opener as they recover from wrist surgery and a hamstring injury, respectively.

This is the ninth bilateral red-ball meeting between the two countries in Sri Lanka. Both teams have won three series each, whereas two ended in a draw.
