Afghanistan is rated one of the most exciting cricket teams in the world, capable of taking down the strongest of opponents on their day. They played their very first ODI on 19th April, 2009, against Scotland and quickly rose through the ranks to be now touted as the second-best team in Asia.

Afghanistan have played 182 ODI matches so far and won 89 out of those, while six matches have ended in no result. While they have managed to register victories against most top countries, there have also been a few teams that haven’t allowed Afghanistan to get past them in their ODI history so far. Here are three teams, Afghanistan haven’t beaten so far in ODIs:

3. New Zealand

Afghanistan and New Zealand have never faced each other in a bilateral ODI series and have only locked horns during the World Cup tournaments. The two teams have faced each other thrice in 2015, 2019 and 2023 respectively, and New Zealand have emerged victorious on all three occasions by heavy margins.

2. India

Afghanistan first took on India during the Asia Cup 2014 and suffered an eight-wicket loss. The two teams next met during the 2018 edition of the continental tournament and played a thrilling tied fixture. They had another close encounter during the 2019 World Cup, where India won by a narrow margin of 11 runs. The last two games between the two sides have been heavily one-sided as India have won by eight and seven wickets, respectively. Afghanistan have played 5 ODIs against India and lost four, while one has ended in a tie.

1. Australia

Another side that Afghanistan haven’t been able to beat so far in their ODI history is the mighty Australia. In the five meetings between the two sides, four have resulted in Afghanistan’s losses, while one game ended in a no result during the Champions Trophy 2025. Afghanistan came mighty close to beating Australia during the World Cup 2023, before a herculean effort from Glenn Maxwell crushed all their hopes.
