Tracing Virat Kohli's statistical journey from 1 to 15000 ODI runs

Virat Kohli shattered yet another record held by his idol, Sachin Tendulkar, on September 27, becoming the fastest batter to reach 15,000 ODI runs. Kohli smashed an unbeaten 139 off just 88 deliveries in the first ODI against West Indies and reached the milestone on the fifth ball of the 29th over, bowled by Alzarri Joseph. This was Virat's 10th ODI hundred against Windies, the joint-most by a player against an opposition in the format. He also has 10 centuries in ODIs against Sri Lanka.

Kohli achieved the feat in just his 303rd ODI innings, while Tendulkar had taken 377 innings to reach the 15,000-run mark in the 50-over format. Kohli also faced fewer deliveries than Tendulkar en route to the milestone. He required 15,950 balls to score his 15,000 ODI runs, compared to Tendulkar's 17,528.

The innings also brought up Kohli's 60th century in List A cricket, drawing him level with Tendulkar for the most hundreds in the format. The 37-year-old also became the first player to score 7,000 or more ODI runs in a single country. He now has 7,006 ODI runs in India, surpassing Tendulkar's previous record of 6,976 runs in the country.
