Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Semi-Final: UAE Qualification Scenario Explained

UAE dished out a near-clinical performance at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) on Friday (September 4), beating Indonesia by six wickets with 41 balls remaining in a Group B fixture of the ongoing Women's Asia Cup. Captain Esha Oza played a pivotal role in securing the much-needed two points that keep her side alive in the race for the semifinals.
It was a do-or-die fixture for the UAE women, as the heavy defeat to Sri Lanka in their campaign opener on August 29 had left them at the bottom of the points table.
Sri Lanka had bundled UAE out for just 79 in 19.5 overs and chased the target in 7.5 overs with nine wickets in hand. UAE’s net run rate took a massive hit.
A comprehensive win over Indonesia has now provided a crucial reprieve. The hosts sit third in Group B. Sri Lanka (4 points) and Bangladesh (2 points) are ahead, while Indonesia are eliminated.
UAE have one group stage match left, against Bangladesh, but even a win in that fixture would not guarantee a semifinal berth. Bangladesh have two matches remaining and are in a stronger position to progress. UAE, with an NRR of -0.854, will be hoping Sri Lanka overpower Bangladesh in their meeting on Sunday, September 6.

A Sri Lanka win would not only seal their own semifinal spot but, from UAE’s perspective, keep Bangladesh stuck on two points.
That scenario would turn the UAE vs Bangladesh clash on September 8 into a virtual quarterfinal, with the winner advancing to the semifinals.
UAE’s emerging allrounder Heena Hotchandani said the entire camp is backing Sri Lanka.
"Yeah, obviously we are rooting for Sri Lanka. Hopefully they get a win so that increases our chances of going through [semis] and it doesn't come on net run rate. All Sri Lanka (smiles)," said Heena in the post-match press conference following UAE’s win over Indonesia.
