Every cricketer dreams of representing their country at the international level ever since they pick up the bat for the first time. While some players feel the jitters playing at the highest level against the best players in the world, some take to international cricket like fish to water and show no qualms while switching to top-level cricket.
In the rich history of cricket, there have been some players who wasted no time in getting comfortable at the highest level and immediately left everyone stunned with their stupendous performances. Here are three youngest players to win Player of the Series in international cricket:
1. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (India)
Sooryavanshi now tops the all-time list after a breathtaking performance in just his second series against Zimbabwe. The left-handed opener amassed 151 runs in the three-match T20I series at a stunning strike rate of 196.10, consistently providing explosive starts for India.
His fearless batting included two match-winning knocks as he first scored his maiden half-century (50 off 19) in the first T20I. The southpaw followed it up with an 81 (49) in the third T20I, helping him earn the Player-of-the-Series award as India completed a comprehensive 3-0 clean sweep. At just 15 years and 121 days, he became the youngest to win the Player of the Series award in international cricket.
2. Shafali Verma (India Women)
Before Sooryavanshi's feat, the record belonged to India's Shafali Verma, who became the youngest Player-of-the-Series winner in international cricket at 15 years and 296 days. Known for her fearless approach at the top of the order, Shafali burst onto the international stage with aggressive strokeplay, helping India whitewash West Indies 5-0 in November, 2019, scoring 158 runs from five innings.
3. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan)
Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz previously held the distinction of being the youngest male cricketer to receive a Player-of-the-Series award. He achieved the feat at 17 years and 300 days in September 2019 during the T20I tri-series against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Gurbaz's performances established him as one of Afghanistan's brightest young stars as he scored 133 runs from four innings with a highest score of 61.
