Winning a World Cup remains the ultimate dream for every cricketer who represents their country at the highest level. Yet, only a fortunate few get to experience that glory. 1. Herschelle Gibbs

One of the most flamboyant openers in white-ball cricket, Gibbs was renowned for his carefree attitude and match-winning knocks. None was more memorable than his 175 at Wanderers, which powered South Africa to chase down 435, the highest-ever successful run chase in ODIs.

  • ODIs: 248 matches, 8,000+ runs
  • Average/Strike Rate: 36.13 / 83.26
  • Hundreds/Fifties: 21 / 37

2. Graeme Smith (c)

Smith was one of the most successful captains of his era, yet never managed a World Cup. He led South Africa in 149 ODIs, winning 92 and losing 51, with a win percentage of 61.74%.

  • ODIs: 197 matches, 6,989 runs
  • Average: 37.98
  • Hundreds/Fifties: 10 / 47

  • Average/Strike Rate: 53.50 / 101.09
