3 Cricketers who have featured on postage stamps

The game of cricket has produced many legends, who’ve taken their nations to unprecedented heights through their remarkable performances. Over the years, cricket legends have been honoured in several ways, through awards, knighthood and honorary ranks.

However, a select few have also featured on postage stamps. The honour has been given in recognition of their contribution to the sport and their legacy in sporting history. Here are three legendary cricketers who have featured on postage stamps:

1. Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest cricketers ever, and his legacy has also been immortalised on an Indian postage stamp. India Post issued a commemorative stamp featuring Tendulkar in 2013, shortly after he brought the curtain down on his extraordinary international career.

The issue coincided with his 200th and final Test, against West Indies at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Tendulkar remains the leading run-scorer in both Test and ODI cricket and the only batter to score 100 international centuries.

2. Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting is another legendary player to have earned a place on a postage stamp. The former Australia captain was featured as part of Australia Post's Australian Legends of Cricket stamp issue in 2021.

Ponting's stamp celebrated his illustrious career in which he became Australia's most successful captain and one of the most prolific batters in international cricket.

Ponting scored more than 27,000 international runs and led Australia to consecutive ODI World Cup titles in 2003 and 2007 and also Champions Trophy titles in 2006 and 2009.

3. Sir Viv Richards

Sir Viv Richards is touted as one of the most destructive batters the game has ever seen and was a key member of the West Indies team which dominated world cricket from the 1970s to early 1990s.

Richards has also featured on cricket-themed postage stamps, with his image used to commemorate his immense contribution to the game. The legendary batter was renowned for his aggressive batting, fearless strokeplay and his unique swagger at the crease.

A two-time World Cup winner with West Indies, Richards remains one of the most respected figures in cricket history.
