In the rich history of cricket, there have been many players who’ve had some bizarre superstitions before going out to play or while being on the pitch. While these bizarre antics don’t have a direct correlation to their game, players believe that they help them perform at their best.

Several top players have followed superstitions throughout their careers and openly spoken about them in public. Here are three top cricketers and their superstitions on the cricket pitch:

1. Sachin Tendulkar

Touted as the greatest batter of all time by many, Sachin Tendulkar’s legacy on the cricket pitch is almost inimitable, given his countless records. While Tendulkar credits his consistent hard work and discipline behind his success, he also believed in superstitions. The star batter always wore his left pad first while getting ready to bat, a routine he followed till the end of his career.

2. Steve Waugh

A batter par excellence and one of the greatest captains the game has ever seen, Steve Waugh had an enviable CV on the cricket pitch. Under his leadership, he started a dominant era of the Australian team that continued till the late 2000s. Waugh always carried a red handkerchief given by his grandmother in his pocket while playing.

3. Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting was the perfect successor to Steve Waugh’s legacy as he made Australia a formidable side with both the might of his willow and his astute leadership. Quite early in his career, Ponting was gifted a poster of WWE wrestler Undertaker by former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie. Since Ponting was a huge fan of the wrestler, he immediately kept it in his kit bag.

The star batter went on a run-scoring spree after receiving the poster and kept it with him to continue its good luck charm.
