6 Indian bowlers from T20 World Cup 2007 final: Where are they now?

The date of September 24, 2007, is etched in the memory of Indian cricket fans as on that very date the Men in Blue conquered the world in a new and exciting format of cricket. MS Dhoni’s men prevailed over arch-rivals Pakistan in the ICC World T20 2007 final, winning the fixture by a narrow margin of five runs.

There were star performers in the Indian squad, with Gautam Gambhir leading the run-scoring charts and also playing a magnificent innings of 75 (54) in the final. Apart from him, the bowling department was also full of match-winners, with the lineup featuring stalwarts like Irfan Pathan, RP Singh, and Harbhajan Singh, among others. After almost 19 years of the historic triumph, here’s what every member of the bowling attack is up to:

1. RP Singh

The left-arm seamer was sensational throughout the campaign, helping India get regular strikes throughout the innings. Singh picked up three wickets in the final, registering figures of 3/26 in four overs. Following his retirement from the game, he took up some commentary stints. He currently serves as a member of the India men’s selection committee from Central Zone.

2. Yusuf Pathan

The T20 World Cup 2007 final was also the international debut match of Yusuf Pathan. Opening the innings, Yusuf Pathan played a brisk innings of 15 (8) before losing his wicket to Mohammad Asif. He also bowled one over in the game, giving away five runs. He currently serves as a Member of Parliament for Trinamool Congress from Bengal's Berhampore.

3. S Sreesanth

S Sreesanth also played a pivotal role in India’s T20 World Cup triumph as he dismissed both Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist in the semi-final. In the final, he was a bit expensive, giving away 44 runs from his four overs and scalped one wicket. However, he took the winning catch at short fine-leg to seal India's victory.

His career took a dramatic turn once he was named in the IPL spot-fixing scandal of 2013. Since then, he's been banned by the BCCI and plays in retired players' leagues around the world.

4. Irfan Pathan

The left-arm seamer produced one of his career-best performances in the final, registering figures of 3/16 in four overs. Irfan Pathan got the big scalps of Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi and Yasir Arafat. 19 years down the line, he’s a well-known commentator and is known for his blunt opinions.

5. Harbhajan Singh

The star India off-spinner didn’t have a memorable game in the final, leaking 36 runs from his three overs. Following his retirement from the game, Harbhajan Singh also serves as a commentator and analyst on TV.

6. Joginder Sharma

Joginder Sharma became a household name after he helped India defend 12 runs in the last over, famously dismissing Misbah ul Haq in the 20^th over. He's currently serving as Deputy Superintendent of Police in Haryana.
