Bowling a maiden over in limited-overs cricket is a rare event. While it was common in the early years of the format, there has been a major reduction in maiden overs as players have adapted to 50-over cricket over the years. Overall, a whopping 24,551 maiden overs have been bowled in ODI history, of which 948 were bowled in 2007, the most in a calendar year.
South African legend Shaun Pollock holds the record for bowling the most maidens in ODIs (313), while Glenn McGrath and Chaminda Vaas have bowled the second most, 279 each. In modern-day cricket, maiden overs are gold dust, especially with the scoring rate reaching new heights every day.
