India played its first ODI in 1974 against England and has since created a rich legacy in the format. Today, India is the second most successful team in ODI cricket with two World Cups and three Champions Trophies to their name. In their illustrious history in ODIs, India have had several players who earned plaudits for their sheer longevity in the format.

These players made a name for themselves by scoring runs year after year, not letting age become a hurdle in their performances. As India continue their golden run in ODIs, here are three players from the country who defied age and became the oldest to score a half-century in ODIs:

3. Sachin Tendulkar (38y 329d)

The legendary India batter scored a half-century against Pakistan at the age of 38 years and 329 days during the Asia Cup 2012 fixture between the two teams in Mirpur. Tendulkar played a brilliant innings of 52 (48), laced with five fours and a six, stitching a massive 133-run stand off 116 balls with Virat Kohli for the second wicket. India went on to win the match by six wickets, and it also turned out to be Tendulkar’s last match in the 50-over format.

2. Mohinder Amarnath (39y 21d)

Mohinder Amarnath walked to the crease on 92/1 after a good start by the openers Navjot Singh Sidhu and Krishnamachari Srikkanth against Pakistan in the Sharjah Champions Trophy in1989. He went on to play a magnificent innings of 88 (80), smashing seven fours and two sixes at the age of 39 years and 21 days. Amarnath got involved in a massive 161-run stand for the second wicket with Sidhu and guided India to a good score of 273/4 in a 46-over fixture. However, the Men in Blue ended up losing the match as Pakistan chased down the target in 44.4 overs.

1. Rohit Sharma (39y 51d)

The opening batter takes the top spot in the list, having recently played a brilliant innings of 79 (69) with the help of nine fours and three sixes during the third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai. Rohit Sharma stitched a massive opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, adding 170 runs for the first wicket off 137 balls. Courtesy of their partnership, India won the match by nine wickets as Rohit became India's oldest half-centurion in the format at the age of 39 years and 51 days.
