Over the years, cricket has seen several batters scoring centuries, as many players have celebrated on the pitch after completing the milestone. While scoring a hundred in the first innings is considered relatively easier, completing a century while chasing a target is a different deal altogether.
No wonder, it’s called one of the most demanding feats in cricket. Some of the game's greatest batters have mastered the art of notching up hundreds after hundreds while chasing a target. Here are the top three players with the most hundreds in winning causes while chasing in men's international cricket:
1. Virat Kohli
The star India batter stands comfortably at the top of the list with 24 centuries in successful chases for India. Virat Kohli has earned the title of ‘chase master’, having guided India to victories from precarious positions on several occasions while pursuing a target.
The former India captain scored all 24 of his hundreds in ODIs, a format where he loves batting the most. Whenever India has been under pressure in a run chase, Kohli has always been the man to bail his team out of trouble with a match-winning century.
2. Rohit Sharma
The former India captain occupies second place with 15 centuries in winning chases. Rohit Sharma has also produced several memorable innings while pursuing targets for India.
He transformed his career ever since he was promoted up the batting order in 2013 and became one of the best openers in the world.
3. Sachin Tendulkar
The legendary batter completes the top three with 15 centuries in successful chases. Sachin Tendulkar was a proven match-winner in his playing days, having notched up several centuries in winning causes for India.
Many of Sachin’s memorable centuries came during run chases as he scored 14 tons while chasing in winning causes in ODIs. He also scored one century in a successful run chase in Tests against England in Chennai, 2008.
