3 Players who scored most runs in their debut series

In the rich history of cricket, there have been players who’ve found it tough to come to terms with the challenges of international cricket from the beginning and had a quiet beginning to their careers. However, there have also been a few players who’ve taken to international cricket like fish to water and announced their arrival in style.
These players had no qualms about facing the international-level bowlers from the outset and left everyone awestruck with their stunning performances. Here’s a list of players who scored the most runs in their debut in international cricket:
1. Sunil Gavaskar (774 runs)
The legendary India batter made his debut during a five-match Test series against West Indies in March 1971. He notched a half-century on his debut, scoring 65, followed by an unbeaten 67* in the second innings, playing a key role in India’s seven-wicket win. He slammed a century in his second Test, followed by another knock of 64* in the second innings.
Gavaskar further slammed consecutive hundreds, followed by a double century to finish the series with 774 runs from eight innings at an average of 154.80, registering four hundreds and three fifties. It remains the world record for most runs scored in a debut series as well as most runs by an India batter in a Test series.
2. George Headley (703 runs)
The West Indies legend made his debut in 1930 against England in Bridgetown. He scored a magnificent 176 in the second innings of his debut Test, followed by twin centuries in his third Test in Georgetown. Headley finished the series with 703 runs from eight innings at an average of 87.87 with four hundreds.
3. Conrad Hunte (622 runs)
The third spot is taken by another West Indies player, Conrad Hunte, who made his debut against Pakistan in Bridgetown in 1958. Hunte scored a brilliant 142 in his debut Test and followed it up with a marathon knock of 260 runs in his third Test. He accumulated 622 runs from nine innings at an average of 77.75 with three hundreds in his debut series.
