Cricket is the most celebrated sport in India as it is deeply rooted in its rich culture and history. India has around 50 international cricket stadiums and over 100 stadiums overall, where matches take place throughout the year.
Cricket grounds come in all shapes and sizes, and in India, a few venues are particularly known for their small boundaries.
While the pitches remain 22 yards long, shorter boundary dimensions often turn matches into run-fests at these stadiums, making them a batter's paradise and leaving bowlers with very little margin for error.
1. Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is widely regarded as one of the smallest international cricket grounds in India. With boundaries measuring roughly 56-60 metres square of the wicket and around 65-68 metres straight, sixes come thick and fast at the venue.
The stadium has witnessed several batting masterclasses over the years and numerous high-scoring matches. Recently in IPL 2026, the venue witnessed the highest successful chase in the tournament's history as Punjab Kings overhauled the score of 264 against Delhi Capitals. The combination of a flat pitch and short boundaries makes it one of the most feared venues for bowlers.
2. Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore
Holkar Cricket Stadium is another batter-friendly venue, where boundaries are among the shortest in the country. The square boundaries generally range between 60 and 65 metres, while the straight boundary is around 70 metres.
The venue has produced several run-fests across international cricket and the IPL. Batters enjoy playing here because mishits often carry over the ropes with utmost ease, while bowlers are forced to work hard on their variations and accuracy to stem the run flow.
3. M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, Bengaluru
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting venues in world cricket. Although its dimensions are marginally larger than Delhi's, its relatively short boundaries, combined with Bengaluru's altitude, make six-hitting significantly easier.
The stadium has hosted countless IPL thrillers and high-scoring international fixtures, including Chris Gayle’s breathtaking innings of 175* (66) in IPL 2013. Batters hitting the ball out of the stadium are a common sight in matches played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
