The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season is just a week away and it promises to be bigger on drama and excitement considering there are 10 more matches that will be played. With more matches there is a higher likelihood of more records being under threat and the way the T20 game has evolved over the years, batting benchmarks have been pushed to extraordinary heights and continue to climb.
Several big names, domestic and overseas, are still going strong and rising through the lists to jostle for or remain in the top tier on various statistical charts. Add to that the emerging talents who are challenging certain numbers and one gets a dynamic scenario which is certain to add a compelling side story to the tournament.

Though the bowlers are at a disadvantage largely, it doesn't mean they are not able to challenge the batters and make their marks in the record books. Therefore, despite the following containing a shortlist that leans heavily towards batting milestones it is simply because those are the ones that are most likely to be broken.
Here are the seven records that could be broken in IPL 2026 -
1) Highest team total
The current record for the highest team total is 287/3 registered by Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2024 edition. However, this record came under major threat in the previous season twice from the same team, SRH. In fact, the way those matches unfolded it was reasonable to think that the 300-run milestone will be achieved. Nevertheless, there is a high expectation of the barrier being breached this season and SRH, with their swashbuckling openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, are the top contenders.
2) Most runs in a season
RCB legend Virat Kohli currently holds the record for most runs scored (973) in a single edition of the league, setting it in 2016. The tally is so high that it has stood for almost a decade now. Shubman Gill (890) in 2023 and Jos Buttler (863) in 2022 came close as one big innings could have led to a new record. However, it now comes under a real threat this season as the total number of matches have increased by 10.
3) Most ducks in history
Glenn Maxwell owns this dubious record, having been dismissed for a duck 19 times. With the Australian choosing to participate in the PSL this year, it is highly likely that the active players behind him in the list will go past him. Rohit Sharma is the next active batter with 18 ducks to his name while Sunil Narine and Rashid Khan have 17 and 16, respectively. At the moment, it appears that the Mumbai Indians opener will be the player to set a new, unfortunate record.
4) Most runs conceded by a bowler in an innings
This is one list which is getting new additions to its top five every couple of editions. Jofra Archer is currently the holder of this unwanted record with 74 runs conceded off four overs against SRH in 2025. Remarkably, the top four are just separated by a run and those spells have come in the last two editions themselves. With the equation tilting towards the batters further, the 74-run mark might be crossed this time around.
5) Highest overall strike rate (Minimum 500 balls faced)
RCB opener Phil Salt, who was bought for INR 115 million ahead of IPL 2025, flaunts the highest strike rate in the league - 175.7 from 34 matches. However, the record is likely to change hands multiple times in the next two months as the list contains several big names below Salt who are aggressive batters. For example, Travis Head is the second active player on the list with 170.02 runs per 100 balls in 38 matches. Needless to say, Salt's record is under threat.
6) Highest match aggregate
The game in which SRH created the record for the highest team total witnessed another peak, a total match tally of 549 runs. As a matter of fact, in the second innings RCB scored 262/7 falling short by not many. 528, 523 twice, and 504 are the next four tallies on the list achieved in the last two seasons. With surfaces supporting hard-hitting at many venues it will not be a surprise if 550+ runs are scored in a match this year.
7) Most matches in a season
This is one number which is certain to be shattered in the 75th match of the season. At present, the highest number of matches played in a season is 74. Notably, IPL 2026 will see 84 games being played for the first time. Incidentally, the tournament began with a total of 59 matches in 2008 and the number has now risen to 84.
