A magnificent double century by wicketkeeper batter Abhigyan Kundu helped India rout Malaysia by 315 runs in the 10th match of the ongoing ACC U19 Men's Asia Cup on December 16. India's margin of victory was the second-largest in terms of runs in the history of the tournament.
Malaysia's decision to field first backfired as India showcased their batting muscle, scoring 408 for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi looked his usual self as he smashed a quick-fire half-century (50 off 26 balls) studded with five boundaries and three sixes. Kundu came to the crease after India lost their top three with just 87 runs on the board inside 11 overs.

Coincidentally, he added 209 runs for the fourth wicket with Vedant Trivedi and took Malaysia's bowling attack to the cleaners. Trivedi was unfortunate to miss out on his ton (90 off 106) as he was caught-and-bowled by Jaashwin Krishnamurthi on the fourth delivery of the 41st over.
Kundu pressed on the accelerator in the last 10 overs and scored 81 off 33 balls. He remained unbeaten at the end and equalled Soumya Sarkar's record for the highest individual score registered in an ACC U19 Asia Cup game. Kundu's 209 off 125 balls included 17 fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 167.20. He shattered Suryavanshi's record for the highest individual score by an Indian in a U19 Asia Cup game.
Notably, Suryavanshi had scored 171 against the UAE in India's campaign opener on December 12 at the ICC Academy.
Kundu's knock helped India rack up their second 400-plus total in the tournament. Muhammad Akram was the pick of all the Malaysia bowlers. He finished with figures of 5/89 in 10 overs.
In reply, Malaysia's batting order fell like a pack of cards as Deepesh Devendran bagged a five-wicket haul (5/22). Only four of Malaysia's batters could reach double digits as they folded for just 93 in 32.1 overs.
The colossal win helped India finish at the top of Group A, and they will take on the team that finishes second in Group B in their semifinal fixture.
