Afghanistan have unveiled their squad for the five-match ODI series against Ireland on Friday, July 24. Rahmat Shah will take over the leadership duties, having been recently handed the captaincy in both Tests and ODIs. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Yamin Ahmadzai have been selected to reinforce the fast-bowling unit.
However, an injury to Mujeeb Ur Rahman has kept him out of contention. Fareed Malik and Bilal Sami, who were a part of the three-match ODI series in India, have been moved to the reserves. Senior all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, who also played in India, wonβt be a part of the series and has been rested. He's currently playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Global Super League in Guyana, which ends on August 2.
Ahmadzai and Farooqi return to Afghanistan's ODI setup after lengthy absences, having last featured in the format in November 2022 and February 2025 respectively. Farooqi has stayed match-ready with his stint in the ongoing Lanka Premier League 2026 (LPL 2026), where he has claimed five wickets in two matches for the Dambulla Sixers.
