India will host Afghanistan for one Test and three ODIs in June. The tour will begin with the Test match starting on June 6 in New Chandigarh followed by 50-over games on June 14, 17 and 20 at Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai, respectively.

This will be the Atalans' second tour to India with the first one coming in 2018 which included the team's maiden Test match only. The Indians achieved a massive win by an innings and 262 runs in Bengaluru back then, and thereafter, the teams have not played a Test against each other. Incidentally, it was the first time a Test match was held in the month of June in India and the upcoming one will be the second.

Notably, the New Chandigarh Test will not be a part of the ongoing World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle and will begin just six days after the conclusion of the IPL on May 31. The three-ODIs will be the first bilateral series between the two sides and the teams have only met each other in ICC and ACC events thus far.

The weather might play a role with regard to how much play would be possible at the venues. While the northern venues might not be impacted by monsoonal conditions the Chennai ODI might be.

India are currently involved in the T20 World Cup 2026, making it to the semi-final to be played against England on Thursday. On the other hand, Afghanistan were eliminated in the league stage this time around after making it to the semi-finals on the previous occasion.

While Afghanistan's tour of India will be the hosts' first assignment after the T20 World Cup, the Atalans will be hosting Sri Lanka in the UAE for three T20Is and ODIs each from March 13 next.
