Albie Morkel appointed head coach of Joburg Super Kings

Joburg Super Kings (JSK) have appointed former South Africa allrounder Albie Morkel as their new head coach ahead of the fifth edition of the SA20.
A seam-bowling allrounder in his heyday, Morkel represented South Africa in 58 ODIs, 50 T20Is and a solitary Test match. He claimed 50 wickets, averaging 37.98 at an economy rate of 5.49, including two four-fors. He bagged 26 wickets in 50 T20Is at an economy rate of 8.01.
The southpaw aggregated 782 runs in ODIs, averaging 23.69 at a strike rate of 100.25, including two fifties. Morkel also racked up 572 runs in T20Is at an impressive strike rate of 142.28.
"Albie Morkel has been an invaluable member of our coaching group over the years. He understands what the Super Kings stand for, has built strong relationships with our players and staff, and has played an important role behind the scenes in player development. We are excited to see him take on this new role and lead the team into the next chapter," said the owner of Joburg Super Kings, Rupa Gurunath.

Morkel played 91 IPL matches for Chennai Super Kings and was a part of two title-winning teams in 2010 and 2011. He expressed his excitement about his new role and vowed to help the group "achieve its full potential".

From wearing the Super Kings jersey as a player to now leading one of its franchises as Head Coach, this journey is truly special. Joburg Super Kings have never won the SA20, having reached the playoffs in all four seasons. They lost to Paarl Royals in the Eliminator of the previous season by 36 runs.
