UAE dusted themselves off after their previous loss against Nepal as Aryansh Sharma and Ajay Kumar exhibited dazzling performances to beat Oman by 25 runs in an ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 fixture at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on April 27.

After being asked to set a total, Aryansh and his partner, Adeeb Usmani, stitched a marathon opening-wicket stand of 164 runs in 30.2 overs and laid a solid foundation up front. While Adeeb fell at an individual score of 64 off 76, Aryansh kicked on and registered his maiden hundred.

The right-handed batter scored 105 off 125 balls with the help of 10 fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 84.00. No. 3 Harpreet Singh also chalked up a steady fifty (54 off 58 balls) at a strike rate of 93.10.

However, UAE ceded momentum as the rest of the batters failed to capitalise on the foundation. Muhammad Shahdad (25 off 23) was the only one who could throw a few punches down the order to take UAE to 268/7 in 50 overs.

Shah Faisal (3/62) was the most prolific bowler for Oman and received good support from Siddharth Bukkapatnam, who returned figures of 2/44 in 10 overs.

In reply, almost every Omani batter got starts, but none could finish the chase off. They began with a robust 85-run partnership between Ashish Odedara (35 off 49) and captain Jatinder Singh (46 off 35).

But both openers fell in quick succession as the game swung dramatically. Mujibur Ali (24 off 34) and Hammad Mirza (27 off 35) tried to rebuild but couldn't last long as Ajay got into the act.

From then on, Oman kept losing wickets frequently, and nobody managed to support wicketkeeper-batter Vinayak Shukla. Shukla played a defiant run-a-ball 58 before and was left stranded as he ran out of partners at the other end.

Ajay's career-best spell in ODIs (6/35) helped UAE bundle Oman for 243 in 47.5 overs.
