Pakistan's Sameer Minhas pulverized India with a record-shattering knock in the U19 Asia Cup final at the ICC Academy Ground, Dubai, on December 21. Minhas enjoyed a stellar run of form in the tournament, amassing over 450 runs with two centuries and a half-century.
He saved the best for last as he came all guns blazing against India in the titular clash, notching up his century in 71 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes. He was eventually dismissed for a staggering 172 off 113, laced with 17 fours and nine sixes. Minhas’ 172 stands as the highest score in U19 Asia Cup final, surpassing Sami Aslam’s 134, incidentally against India, in the 2012 iteration.

Minhas’ astounding knock helped him etch multiple firsts, as he became the only player to score over 450 runs in a single edition of the U19 Asia Cup at an average over 150. The youngster has also toppled the record of most runs in a single edition of the U19 Asia Cup, bettering his compatriot Aslam’s tally of 461 in the 2012 edition.
Minhas’ knock guided Pakistan to a mammoth 347 for 8 in 50 overs, with nearly all of India’s bowlers taking a beating. Ahmed Hussain’s 56 off 72 and Usman Khan’s 35 off 45 were the other notable contributions for Pakistan.
Sameer, the younger brother of Pakistan's senior international Arafat Minhas, had earlier battered Malaysia in the group stages, walloping an unbeaten 177 off 148 with 11 fours and eight sixes. He finished the tournament with 471 runs in five innings at an average of 157 and strike rate of 117.45 with 41 fours and 19 sixes.
