Asian Games 2026: India to face Afghanistan in quarter final, Pakistan to take on Hong Kong

India are set to face Afghanistan in the quarter-finals of the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket event. The line-ups for all quarter-final matches in the tournament were finalised after the conclusion of the group stage fixtures on Saturday, September 26.

Nepal and Afghanistan advanced to the last eight after the final group fixture between Nepal and Japan was washed out. As a result, Japan were knocked out of the tournament after facing one loss and a washout in the two fixtures.

On the other hand, the Group B fixture between Malaysia and Oman was also washed out without a ball being bowled, which sent Malaysia and Hong Kong straight to the quarter-finals from Group B, with Oman getting knocked out. 

As per the confirmed quarter-final fixtures, Pakistan will face Hong Kong China in the first quarter-final, while India will lock horns with Afghanistan in the second quarter-final. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will take on Nepal, and Bangladesh will take on Malaysia.

Rain to impact quarter-finals

Meanwhile, rain is likely to impact the remaining fixtures of the tournament as well.  There’s a 91% chance of rain on Monday, September 28, when the first two quarter-finals are set to be played, along with a 22% chance of thunderstorms as per the AccuWeather forecast.

On the other hand, the match day for the second quarter-final on Tuesday, September 29, is also set to be heavily impacted by rain, with an 89% chance of showers and an 18% chance of thundershowers.

As per the tournament rules, if a knockout game is called off without a result, the higher-seeded team as per the ICC's T20I rankings will be declared the winner.
