Asian Games 2026: India to face Sri Lanka in semi final, Pakistan to take on Bangladesh

India will take on Sri Lanka in the second semi-final of the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket event after the latter’s quarter-final fixture against Nepal was abandoned on Tuesday, September 29. The game was called off prior to the toss at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin, due to incessant rain that has affected the tournament so far.

As a result, Sri Lanka progressed to the semi-finals due to their higher seeding determined by the ICC T20I team rankings. The Lankan Lions are ninth in the rankings, while Nepal are 14^th. Meanwhile, Bangladesh sealed the fourth and final spot in the semi-final after their quarter-final match against Malaysia was also abandoned.

They’re ranked eighth in the ICC T20I team rankings ahead of Malaysia’s 25^th. Earlier, India also qualified for the semi-finals over Afghanistan after another washout by virtue of their higher seeding. Similarly, Pakistan also entered the final four after a rain abandonment in their quarter-final against Hong Kong.

Pakistan and Bangladesh will lock horns in the first semi-final on Thursday, October 1 at the same venue. On the other hand, India and Sri Lanka will take on each other in the second semi-final on the same day as well.

In the last edition of the Asian Games in 2022, Sri Lanka were eliminated in the quarter-final by Afghanistan. If they face another washout in the semi-final against India, the latter will qualify for the final.
