Australia have unveiled their squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against England beginning on November 13 in Perth. Sam Harper and Lachlan Shaw have earned maiden T20I call-ups, while Jake Fraser-McGurk and Mitchell Owen have marked their return to the team for the five-match series.
Fast bowler Mahli Beardman, batter Oliver Peake and all-rounders Jack Edwards and Liam Scott have been selected in the ODI squad. Nikhil Chaudhary and Joel Davies join Beardman and Edwards in the T20I side.
Beardman is in line to make his ODI debut with the selectors resting the senior pace trio of Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc ahead of a packed Test season.
Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Cooper Connolly, who were a part of Australia’s recent Test series in South Africa, have all been included in the ODI squad.
Josh Inglis, who scored a century in the third Test in Cape Town and is in the mix for a spot in the New Zealand Tests, has been rested from the T20I series, paving the way for Sam Harper and Lachlan Shaw’s selection.
Shaw was appointed captain of New South Wales’ One-Day Cup side this summer and also led the Sheffield Shield team in Nic Maddinson’s absence. On the other hand, Harper has continued his impressive form since last summer, when he was named the BBL’s Player of the Tournament. He was subsequently included in Australia’s Test squad for the series in South Africa but didn’t feature in the playing XI.
Nathan Ellis ruled out of ODIs
Meanwhile, fast bowler Nathan Ellis is still recovering from a side strain he picked up during the second ODI in South Africa. As a result, he will miss the ODIs but is expected to return for the T20I series.
Matthew Short wasn’t considered for selection as he will remain on the sidelines for the next five weeks, having undergone a hip procedure. The three-match ODI series against England begins on November 13 and will be followed by five T20Is beginning on November 21.
