Australia announce injury replacement for Billy Stanlake ahead of South Africa ODIs

New South Wales bowling allrounder Jack Edwards has been added to Australia’s ODI squad for the upcoming South Africa series as an injury replacement for Billy Stanlake. Stanlake suffered a side strain while bowling his fifth over during the second ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Edwards was in Puducherry, India, preparing for the first unofficial Test between Australia A and India A starting Tuesday. He will now fly to Durban to link up with Australia’s squad ahead of the ODI series opener against the Proteas on Thursday.

Australia have also released left‑arm quick Spencer Johnson from the squad as part of his workload management. Johnson took three wickets across two games against Zimbabwe, averaging 31.33 at an economy rate of 4.94. He was involved in an unbeaten 27‑run stand for the final wicket with Nathan Ellis to help Australia clinch the third ODI against Zimbabwe on September 20 and complete a series whitewash.
