Ayush Mhatre's IPL 2026 campaign has come to a horrid end. The right-handed batter has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a left hamstring injury. The ICC Men's U19 World Cup-winning skipper suffered the injury during the match No. 27 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 18.

Mhatre is the latest to be ruled out or suffer a major injury setback in the Chennai Super Kings camp. Nathan Ellis (hamstring) and Khaleel Ahmed (quadricep) are the other prominent names from the CSK outfit who have already been ruled out of the tournament with injuries.

"Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. Ayush's injury will require a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery," CSK posted in their official announcement on X.

Mhatre scored 201 runs in six games for Chennai before the setback occured. He racked up his runs at an average of 33.50 and at an impressive strike rate of 177.87. He registered two fifties and smashed 20 fours and 12 sixes.

His absence is likely to create a major void in the batting order as Mhatre was batting fearlessly and not letting CSK's run rate nosedive in the powerplay or the middle overs.

CSK are yet to receive the MS Dhoni boost they are longing for from the start of the season. Dhoni injured his calf in the lead-up to the season and has been undergoing rehab. The pressure is on captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is yet to find form.
