Bangladesh registered a memorable win over Pakistan as they clinched the first Test in the ongoing two-match series in Mirpur by 104 runs on the final day. Nahid Rana stole the show for the hosts as he bagged a five-wicket haul and emerged as the wrecker-in-chief to subdue the visitors.

The Pakistan batters had no answers to Rana's pace and the late movement he was able to extract after the ball became slightly older. The wear and tear on the surface also came to his aid as he ran in with full steam and landed multiple deliveries in the corridor of uncertainty. He accounted for Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Noman Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi in his 9.5-over spell.

The triumph has helped the Bangla Tigers register a hat-trick of wins over Pakistan in the red-ball format. They had previously blanked the Green Shirts 2-0 in a two-match Test series in Pakistan in August of 2024. This is just the third Test win for Bangladesh over their Asian neighbours. Pakistan still lead their overall head-to-head in the longest format by 11-3.

Bangladesh resumed their innings on 152/3 on day five with the onus on Najmul Hossain Shanto (58*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (16) to score at a brisk pace. Rahim could only add six more runs to his tally before he perished while trying to up the ante. Player of the Match (POTM) Shanto scored 87 and was trapped in front of his stumps by Noman Ali while attempting a reverse sweep.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (24 off 27) smacked three fours and a six, and Taskin Ahmed (11 off 5) struck a boundary and a six to display some lower-order intent before Shanto thought they had enough on the board. Bangladesh declared on 240/9, setting Pakistan a target of 268 and putting them in before lunch.

The tourists were pegged back immediately as Taskin nicked off Imam-ul-Haq in the first over of the fourth innings, and players broke for lunch. The first innings centurion, Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal then joined hands and added 54 for the second wicket in an act of resistance. Awais, however, was cleaned up by Mehidy as he tried to cut a ball too close to cut, and paid the price.

Debutant Fazal was the standout batter for Pakistan as he tried to pull them out of strife. His 113-ball vigil came to an end when he was pinned in front of his stumps by Taijul Islam. Fazal played back to a delivery he should have been forward to and was hit flush on his pads.

Pakistan then suffered a dramatic collapse and were bundled out for just 163 in 52.5 overs.
