The third day of the Mirpur Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan showcased a tug of war, and it can be argued that the hosts hold a slight advantage leading into day four. Day three resumed with jubilation in the visitors' camp after Azan Awais, who was unbeaten on 85, reached the three-figure mark.

He became only the sixth Pakistan opener to register a Test hundred on debut after Khalid Ibadulla (1964), Ali Naqvi (1997), Taufiq Umar (2001), Fawad Alam (2009), and Abid Ali (2019).

Awais would be a tad disappointed with the mode of his dismissal, though, as he poked a short of a length delivery outside off without much feet movement and was caught in the slip cordon by Najmul Hossain Shanto. Awais' wicket brought an end to a 104-run stand for the second wicket between Awais and Abdullah Fazal, the other debutant.

Pakistan then ceded advantage with a middle-order collapse that saw them slump from 210/2 to 230/5. With Shan Masood, Fazal, and Saud Shakeel all back in the sheds, the onus fell on the shoulders of Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan.

The duo responded responsibly, stitching a 119-run stand for the sixth wicket. Agha (58) and Rizwan (59) looked assured in the middle and made the Bangladesh bowlers toil. Rizwan perished to an unnecessary lofted shot over mid-off against Taijul Islam, but holed out. It opened the floodgates yet again, and Pakistan got bundled out for 386.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the pick of all the Bangladesh bowlers. He registered figures of 5/102 and was backed up well by Taijul (2/46) and Taskin Ahmed (2/70).

Bangladesh earned a slender lead of 27 and were seven for no loss in the second innings before the umpire called stumps due to inclement weather. Mahmudul Hasan Joy (2*) and Shadman Islam (0*) are unbeaten and will come back on day four to maximise Bangladesh's lead.
