Hobart Hurricanes registered a hard-fought four-wicket victory over Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 clash at Perth Stadium. Batting first, Perth Scorchers managed a middling 150/8 in their 20 overs. The hosts were put under pressure early, finding themselves five down by the midway stage of the innings. Finn Allen was the standout performer with the bat, playing a fluent hand of 43 off 23 balls, including three sixes and fours apiece.

Allen received limited but effective support from Laurie Evans and Nick Hobson, who chipped in with 27 off 18 and 29 off 23 to help the scorchers reach a defendable total. However, the Hurricanes’ bowling attack reaped the rewards of their discipline, particularly Rishad Hossain, who claimed three wickets. Riley Meredith was equally impressive, returning economical figures of 2/19 from his four overs.

In reply, Hobart Hurricanes were bothered early as both openers were dismissed inside the powerplay before Nikhil Chaudhary steadied the ship with a composed 34 off 30 balls, stitching vital partnership with Tim David. Chaudhary’s dismissal came shortly after the Hurricanes crossed the 100-run mark and that was followed by David retiring hurt on 42 off 28 deliveries, leading the momentum back in favour of the Scorchers.

However, Macalister Wright played a crucial finishing role, remaining unbeaten on 22 off 13 balls to guide the Hurricanes home in a tense final-over finish. Chris Jordan’s valuable 15-run contribution further eased the pressure before captain Nathan Ellis sealed the victory with a boundary off the third ball of the 20th over.

Hobart Hurricanes registered their third victory and retained second place on the points table with a positive net run rate of +0.419. Perth Scorchers, meanwhile, suffered their second consecutive defeat while defending a total. The Hurricanes will next be in action on December 29, while the Scorchers are set to face Sydney Thunder on December 30.
