Australia and Hobart Hurricanes batter Tim David suffered a hamstring injury during the game against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium on Friday, December 26.

David, who was going strong at 42 off 28 balls, appeared to be in discomfort in the 15th over of the Hurricanes' run chase. Off the third ball of the same over, the 29-year-old swatted a short delivery from Brody Couch towards midwicket. As soon as he was about to complete the run he started limping. Sensing a hamstring niggle, he called for the physiotherapist but stayed on for the time being.

David, eventually, sought medical advice and left the field in utter disappointment. This is the second time in the year that he has suffered the same injury. The earlier incident occurred during IPL 2025 while fielding for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The Singapore-born was out of action for two months, making his comeback in the T20I series against the West Indies.

"I just felt a little bit of something when I was trying to come back for a second run. It wasn't ideal, but I didn't want to make it worse. I had full faith in the boys to get us home, and they did. It's a high hamstring; I felt it just as I was getting toward full pace. Hopefully, I will be okay," said David after the match against the Scorchers.

The Scorchers posted 150/8 in the first innings which seemed far from competitive but the team made it so. After the failures of the openers, Nikhil Chaudhary and Ben McDermott combined to stabilise the innings. The latter, however, could not contribute much as he was dismissed for nine off 16 balls.

David joined forces with Chaudhary (34 off 30) and the duo took the Hurricanes to a position of authority with a 63-run partnership off 37 balls. But, Chaudhary's wicket and David's injury in a gap of one run brought two new men to the crease. With a slight jitter Macalister Wright (22* off 13) and Chris Jordan (15 off 11) guided the team home with four wickets in hand and three balls remaining.
