Cricket South Africa (CSA) has added three T20Is to India women's upcoming tour of South Africa, which is slated to get underway in December. The tour originally had a one-off Test and three ODIs but has been extended further with the inclusion of three T20Is.
"The inbound tour will now conclude with a thrilling three-match T20I series, including a Boxing Day showdown, giving both teams the perfect opportunity to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy," CSA announced in a statement on August 6.
The high-profile bilateral series will get underway on December 9 with a four-day Test at St. George's Park in Gqeberha. Both teams will then shift their attention to ODI cricket as the three-match 50-over series will kick off on December 16 at Boland Park in Paarl. The Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town will host the second ODI on Saturday, December 19. The series decider will be contested on December 22 at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
The conclusion of the ODI leg will pave the way for the T20I series. The T20I opener will be a Boxing Day showdown at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Saturday, December 26. Teams will then travel to the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom for the second game, and the tour will come to a close with the final fixture on December 30 at the same venue.
Notably, this will be India's second trip to South Africa this year. The Women in Blue had toured the African nation in April for a five-match T20I series to fine-tune their prep for the Women's T20 World Cup. South Africa dominated India in the bilateral series, winning 4-1 with Laura Wolvaardt showcasing a domineering display. She racked up 330 runs in five matches, averaging 82.50 at a strike rate of 168.37, laced with a hundred (115).
South Africa had also got the better of India at the Women's T20 World Cup, beating them by six wickets and costing them a place in the semis.
