Amid the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, eight teams have already qualified for the next edition of the tournament to be played in 2028. The top four teams from each group have secured their spots for the next edition as Australia, India, South Africa and Bangladesh have qualified from Group A.
On the other hand, England, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are through from Group B. Pakistan, who finished fifth in Group A, following their 37-run victory in the last fixture against Netherlands, have also qualified being the hosts of the event.
Scotland missed out on qualification for the 12-team event by a whisker after losing their last fixture against Sri Lanka by three wickets. The tenth spot will be awarded to the highest-ranked team apart from the nine already-qualified sides on the ICC Women's T20I rankings by July 6, 2026, cut-off date.
Ireland are currently ranked ninth in the rankings and look favourites to earn a direct qualification. The remaining two berths for the tournament will be decided through a 10-team global qualifier, where teams will earn their places via regional qualifiers.
ICC confirm qualification path for Champions Trophy
Netherlands are expected to go through the global qualifier to secure a place in the main tournament, being currently ranked 14th in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings. Scotland (11th) and Ireland (9th) could also find themselves in the qualifiers if they slip down the rankings before the July 6 cut-off.
Meanwhile, the ICC also confirmed the qualification criteria for the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka next year. Hosts Sri Lanka will be joined by the top five teams in the ICC Women's T20I rankings as of the July 6 cut-off. Based on the current standings, Australia, England, India, New Zealand and South Africa will be seen competing at the event alongside the hosts.
