India all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the third ODI against England, scheduled to be played on Sunday, July 19, at Lord’s. Sundar sustained a right hamstring injury while batting during the second ODI at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
Following his injury, he was seen getting his thigh strapped up by the physio. He continued to bat and was eventually dismissed for 2 off 5 deliveries, leaving the field in visible discomfort. Later, Sundar didn’t come to field in the second innings, as India dearly missed his off-spin in England’s four-wicket win.
He will undergo scans and seek a specialist opinion for further management of his injury. In his place, the selection committee has added Harsh Dubey to the Indian squad for the last ODI.
Dubey recently made his debut against Afghanistan in June and registered figures of 3/47 in five overs in a rain-curtailed 25-over fixture in Dharamsala. The left-arm spinner has scalped four wickets from two matches so far.
Series tied 1-1 ahead of Lord's ODI
Meanwhile, the series is tied 1-1 after England made a comeback in Cardiff, following a six-wicket defeat in the series opener in Birmingham. Joe Root scored a sublime 99* (133) to help England chase down 234 in 44.1 overs.
Heading into the series-decider third ODI at Lord's, the hosts will be eyeing their first ODI series win against India since 2018, having lost the last three on the trot.
India's updated squad for the third ODI: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav, Harsh Dubey
