New Zealand hammered England by 253 runs on Day 5 of the second Test at the Oval to level the series 1-1. Matt Henry made light work of the English lower order with his menacing spell on the final day as he scalped all five wickets to fall. It only took 50 minutes for New Zealand to wrap up things on the last day with England suffering their sixth loss in the last eight Test matches.
Just seven deliveries into his spell, Henry got the biggest scalp of the day as he trapped Joe Root (77) in front of the stumps, sending England’s last hope into the pavilion. Two balls later, he shattered Jofra Archer’s stumps for a duck and bowled a double-wicket maiden.

In his next over, stumps were rattled again as Matthew Fisher chopped one back onto the wicket, while Jos Tongue was dismissed for a golden duck, caught by Daryl Mitchell at first slip. As a result, Henry registered his eighth five-wicket haul in Tests and his maiden ten-wicket haul in the format after earlier scalping 5/80 in the first innings.
With his Sonny Baker to keep him company, Jordan Cox played some shots to add some innocuous runs to the English total. It was again Henry’s golden arm that got the last wicket and sealed New Zealand’s victory as he again annihilated Cox’s (25) stumps, bundling out England for 209 in their second innings.
Matt Henry adjudged Player of the Match
He finished with figures of 6/29 in 18.1 overs, also registering his best-ever match figures of 11/109. The right-arm seamer registered the best Test match bowling figures for New Zealand against England, as Matt Henry was also adjudged Player of the Match.
Apart from him, Kyle Jamieson (3/61) also chipped in with three wickets, while Will O’Rourke (1/48) also scalped one wicket. Courtesy of their efforts, New Zealand managed to level the three-match series 1-1, with the third match scheduled to begin on June 25 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
