England dealt major blow as Jos Buttler ruled out of ODI decider against Sri Lanka

England have suffered a significant setback ahead of the ODI series decider against Sri Lanka, with wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler ruled out due to a left hamstring injury.

Buttler sustained the injury while running between the wickets during the second ODI at Headingley, Leeds. He was forced to retire hurt before returning to continue England's chase of 322, as the hosts looked to seal the three-match series with a game to spare.

Despite battling through the injury, Buttler was unable to take England over the line. He was dismissed on the first ball of the final over, holing out to deep midwicket with England needing 19 runs from the last five deliveries. England eventually fell 16 runs short, allowing Sri Lanka to level the series.

England have wicketkeeping cover in the squad through Jordan Cox, who is expected to take over the gloves in the third ODI with the series hanging in the balance. Meanwhile, Dan Lawrence has been called up as Buttler's replacement.

Sri Lanka will also be without star leg-spinning all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who has returned home after experiencing lower back pain. Hasaranga was unavailable for the second ODI as well.

The series decider will be played at The Oval, London, on September 27.
