Fatima Sana penalised for heated on-field moment in India-Pakistan Women's Asia Cup clash

Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana has been found in breach of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their Group A fixture against India in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai on Saturday, September 5.

Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fees for breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.”

One demerit point has been added to Sana’s disciplinary record. Notably, this is her second offence of this nature, taking her overall tally to two in the last 24 months. Earlier, she received a demerit point in the first match of the three‑T20I series against Ireland at Castle Avenue in Dublin on August 6, 2025. Pakistan lost that game by 11 runs.

Sana celebrated aggressively after dismissing India’s opener Shafali Verma. Shafali had made a brisk start with a six and a boundary before offering a simple caught‑and‑bowled chance, which Sana accepted gleefully. She then immediately gestured towards the pavilion.

Pakistan’s premier bowling allrounder admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Supriya Das. As a result, no formal hearing was required.
