Fatima Sana's stature in world cricket is on the rise as she has signed up to play in yet another globally popular event, the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia, after representing Birmingham Phoenix in the Women's Hundred.

Sana's maiden stint in the WBBL will come with Perth Scorchers, and she is certain to be available for the first eight fixtures. Her stay in the marquee tournament might be extended if she gets permission from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to skip a training camp ahead of their forthcoming tour of West Indies, expected to begin in the second week of December.

"I've watched the WBBL from Pakistan and always wondered what it would feel like to be part of this great competition," Sana was quoted as saying in a statement released by Scorchers. "To now wear the Scorchers colours, represent such a great club and walk out at the WACA Ground in front of members and fans, while being cheered on by people back home, is incredibly special. This really is a dream come true."

Sana is only the second Pakistani player to feature in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), following former captain Nida Dar. Dar represented Sydney Thunder and played 11 matches during the 2019 edition of the tournament.

Sana recently made her maiden appearance in The Hundred after being picked by Birmingham Phoenix in the wildcard draft for the minimum salary of £15,000. She joined the squad as an injury replacement for emerging Australian left-arm seamer Lucy Hamilton. Sana has also featured in the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) and the Women's Super Smash, playing in the tournaments' 2022 and 2023 editions, respectively.

Meanwhile, Scorchers have already won the WBBL once. They defeated Adelaide Strikers in the 2021 season to snap their title drought under the leadership of New Zealand allrounder Sophie Devine. While Devine has retired from all forms of international cricket, she has recommitted to Scorchers on a one-year deal.
